prosperity gospel

In our group we come from all the various denominations. We have wonderful meetings. We do need to remember what Paul says in Galations: But even if we or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.

Here is an article that a friend from Nigeria shared with me:

How to Help Friends Escape the Prosperity Gospel

Piper: “Christians in prosperity churches are often profoundly unprepared for what life under God’s providence is going to deal them — and that is a tragedy.”

This same friend wrote to me about the problem with false teachers:

Adeyemi Peter Agboola "Another problem though, with the sort of people you mentioned, is that they have been thoroughly brainwashed through a thousand twisted scripture passages. Now they are imprisoned by mere human sophistries calculated by the Devil to belittle the humble but far reaching meaning of scripture. It is easier to reach harlots than to turn the minds of men heavily brainwashed with lies from the teachers of deceit. It is hard for them to strip away their garments of self-love, and worship God in truth. They are told that worshiping God is the end of all lack, the end of all illness, the end of all disappointment, and the end to hunger and the end to growing old. They will now experience eternal youth because their bodies will no longer cooperate with any age deteriorations. They experience perfection even BEFORE the Kingdom of God comes with our Saviour Jesus Christ. We wait for perfection, they are told they already have perfection now. They are ruled and oppressed by greedy pocket-seeking false teachers!"

Another friend sent this from John MacArthur: http://www.gty.org/resources/sermons/TM13-10/the-devilish-puppet-master-of-the-wordfaith-movement-justin-peters?Term=Word

shared scripture

Today's meeting was wonderful.

We each brought a scripture in and placed them in a pile. We then drew one paper out and read it to ourselves. Then, one person at a time read the scripture out loud and told what they thought when they read the verse(s). After they spoke then the person who submitted the verse said why the chose that verse. Of course, the rest of us chimed in our own thoughts as well. Such a nice lunch hour.

Psalm 103:4 He ransoms me from death and surrounds me with love and tender mercies.

Gabriel speaks to Mary
Luke 1:28 The angel came to her and said, "You are honored very much. You are a favored woman. The Lord is with you. *You are chosen from among many women."

Gabriel speaks to Joseph
Matthew 1:20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit."

Luke 10:38-42  Mary at the feet of Jesus while Martha is off somewhere else being busy.

As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lordʼs feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, donʼt you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”  “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.

Matthew 3:17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
