Almighty and most merciful God, who hast sent this book to be the revelation of thy great love to man, and of thy power and will to save him, grant that our study of it may not be made vain by callousness or carelessness of our hearts, but that by it we may be confirmed in penitence, lifted to hope, made strong for service and above all, filled with the true knowledge of thee and of thy Son Jesus Christ. Amen.

but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, 
 

for they cannot

A member of our group lost his 16 year old son today in a car wreck.

But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. 

There are no words within me that can even begin to offer hope.

He will tend his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms; he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young.


However I know where I can go to find words and truth and comfort.

Who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

For they cannot die anymore, because they are equal to angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.
